Friend – a sister I chose

Friend, you have shown me what it is to be there, even when you don’t need to. You are loyal, thoughtful, kind and generous. Thank you for loving me through the messy, encouraging me through the rough, and supporting me in my dreaming. Your attention to detail shows just how much you care about the small things – those things that most people take for granted. I do not have a sister, but if I did, I imagine her to be much like you.

I’ve said it before, but I can’t say it enough – you have become such an imperative part of my team. You are the most amazing second shooter I could hope for. Every year I see your passion grow for this industry; you’ve fumbled through with me in our uniquely graceful ways of learning and teaching. You’ve loved me despite my imperfections, and you’ve selflessly done for me and my beloved family and clients what I’ve never even had to ask of you. You are a true friend, and I cherish you and our friendship so much.

You are truly beautiful from your heart, to your freckles, to your jet black hair, speckled with flecks of gray. Your smile lights up these frames and my days; thank you for sharing it, even when you may be hurting inside. You inspire me to be a better mother, friend, photographer, and human being. Although we are not considered sisters by blood, I am honored to call you a sister in my heart.

“Find your tribe. You know the ones that make you feel the most you. The ones that lift you up and help you remember who you really are. The ones that remind you that a blip in the road is just that, a blip. They are the ones that when you walk out of the room, they make you feel like a better person than when you walked in. They are the ones that even if you don’t see them face-to-face as often as you’d like, you see them heart-to-heart. You know that kind of tribe? Who’s your tribe?” – Jennifer Pastiloff   You are my tribe. You are my friend. You are my sister.

P.S. Check out Brittney’s Etsy shop when you’re thinking about Christmas gifts! All of my newborn tiebacks, hats, outfits, and wraps (not to mention all of my daughter’s tie-backs) come from Knotty Wear by Brittney. She’s super quick, talented, and treats her customers like gold!

Children – these called mine

My children. How is it that there can be little beings that I feel so strongly about? It’s as if my heart leapt right out of my chest and became a separate entity the minute each of these children were born.
Confession: I didn’t want to have a baby for years because I didn’t want to share my husband’s attention with anyone else. *Gasp* Yep, I said it…selfish little ol’ me didn’t want to share him. Within four months of saying “I do”, I found out that I would no longer have only my husband to hold. Do you want to know something crazy…my love for my husband only multiplied when I watched him with my first born babe. Even after seeing my love for my husband only grow, I was afraid to have a second baby because I was scared it would dim the love I had for Jude, my son.
Don’t we have such a skewed view of what love truly is? Afraid to share because maybe it will run out. Guess what…true love never runs out. I had heard 1Corinthians 13:4-13 many times…in fact, it was the passage Josh and I had chosen to have Danette share at our very own wedding. Even then, never did I grasp it quite like I do now as a mother, and compared to the patience and kindness of our heavenly Father, I know I only hold a speck in my heart of what true love is.
Do you want to hear something even crazier than all of this?? Our papa…our daddy in heaven loves us with a more pure, patient, kind love than we love our very own children. He loves us so good that he says in 2 Corinthians 6:18 “I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters…” I don’t know about you, but my heart can’t help but leap for joy when I read that one…daughter of the KING?? What?! Mind. Blown. That means….when I was a little girl, my dream of being a princess wasn’t all for naught….in my heart, I have always been a princess, a daughter of the King of all creations! Galations 3:26 “You are all sons (daughters) of God through faith in Christ Jesus.”
A member of the beloved bride of Christ. WHOA! God is King, Jesus is Prince of peace…we are daughters of the King, brides of the prince. Our hearts are so lovely to him that he woos us and wins us every single day. He loves us and wants only for us to love him in return.
To my Jude and Journee, I pray you always know just how loved you are – with an even bigger love than you can fathom; a love more grandeur than I could ever give you with my own power. May Christ’s love pour through me to you and you forever feel the love he has for you.
To my friend reading this today..thank you. You are loved with an even bigger love than you can imagine.

Psalm 139:14 “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life.”
1John 3:1-2 “How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.”

In Need – Help Fund Clean Water

Help. These people need help. But what can we do? How can we help, you ask?
From Thanksgiving until Christmas, I will be offering mini sessions for families for a free will donation. 50% of that donation will go toward Living Water International ( either to dig a well or to fund sending me on a mission trip in 2017. Help Kate and me help others….let’s be His hands and feet.

“In 2014 on a trip to El Salvador with Living Water International, I witnessed the sober reality of those deeply affected by the global water crisis. I observed five school-aged girls walking to collect water for their classmates – only they didn’t collect the water from a faucet, or even a well – but a cistern (an underground, man-made hole used for collecting river and rain water).
I watched on as one of the girls opened the metal lid while two of them removed their socks and shoes before lowing themselves into waist deep, murky water. Their friends lowered buckets to them to fill with water – which was soon followed by shrieks and giggling.
If the brown water with floating debris wasn’t bad enough, one proceeded to scoop up a dead lizard with a piece of cardboard and flung it from the hole. Brown, debris and dead animal filled water. Working as a team, they lifted the 20 pound buckets, assisted their friends as they climbed out of the hole, and helped them put their school uniforms back on – and off they went.
The reality is, 663 million people lack access to clean drinking water. Something that we use in extreme excess and without second thought, numerous times a day. Lack of this most basic needs kills more people each year than all forms of violence, even war.
Knowledge is power, but it also brings us to a crossroad. What will we do with this knowledge? Move on with our lives disregarding the information at hand, convincing ourselves we aren’t capable of making a difference – or will we choose to do something about it?” – Kate Daniels ; Short-Term Trip Coordinator, Guatemala; LIVING WATER INTERNATIONAL

I’m choosing to do something about it because every child – every person – deserves to have access to clean water every single day of their lives – something we can easily take for granted.

We must not take these things for granted. Water is the source of life for our bodies, who am I to ignore the issue, to not help others in their need. I hope that if the tables were turned, if I were in that place, someone would love and help me – someone would want this for my children.

Isaiah 44:3 – For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour my Spirit upon your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants.
Ephesians 2:10 – For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Please e-mail me to book your session. Let’s help.

Happy Thanksgiving, dear friends. We are blessed with much to be thankful for.
